Vietnam wins 14 medals at the 2026 Asian Junior and U23 Canoeing Championships

The Vietnamese canoeing team concluded the 2026 Asian Junior and U23 Canoeing Championships in Kazakhstan with an impressive record of 4 golds, 3 silvers, and 7 bronzes.

Most notably, athlete Diep Thi Huong won 3 individual golds and contributed to an additional team Gold Medal. Diep Thi Huong performed outstandingly in the U23 age group, winning consecutive gold medals in the C1-200m, C1-500m, and C1-1000m events. Notably, the two gold medals in the C1-200m and C1-500m distances helped the rower from the People's Police sports team successfully defend the championship title she won in the 2025 season.

In addition, Diep Thi Huong joined teammates Nguyen Hong Thai, Le Thi Lan Anh, and Phung Thi Ngoc Diem to secure another gold medal for Vietnam in the U23 women's C4 500m event, contributing significantly to the team’s overall success.

In the U23 category, Vietnamese athletes also won one silver medal and three bronze medals. The silver medal was won by Nguyen Hong Thai and Le Thi Lan Anh in the C2 500m event. The three bronze medals came from Nguyen Hong Thai and Le Thi Lan Anh in the C2 200m event, Hoang Thi Lam and Bui Mai Hanh in the WK2 500m event, and the quartet of Hoang Thi Lam, Bui Mai Hanh, Hoang Thi Huong, and Ly Thi Cam in the WK4 500m event.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s U18 athletes delivered strong performances, winning two silver medals and four bronze medals. The silver medals were secured by the C4 500m crew of Vu Ngoc Uyen, Ca Thuy Loan, Luong Thi Yen Ly, and Le Thi Phuong Minh, as well as by Kim Thai Tu and Ma Thi Dieu Ngoc in the XC2 500m event.

The 2026 Asian Junior and U23 Canoeing Championships brought together approximately 350 athletes from 17 Asian countries and territories. Vietnam’s total of 14 medals highlights the steady development of the country’s young canoeing talents and reflects the effectiveness of its athlete development programs as the sport continues to aim for greater achievements on the international stage.
